Windows 7 Install Doesn't See Hard Drive

Hard drive worked fine before i reformatted using the installation disk and am not convinced it is a hard drive failure. i can access the hard drive on cmd through the windows 7 full version dvd. i reformatted the hard drive from raw to ntfs, but didn't do any partitioning prior to formatting.. My laptop came with windows 7 home premium edition, i wanted to have ubuntu and windows 7 in dual boot, using grub. i install ubuntu 10.10, but dell data safe is rewrite the mbr, i really needed ubuntu for a homework, i had to format my hard drivepartition, and i lose my recovery partition.. The bios can see the drive is connected but when i go through the windows setup it doesn't detect the drive. if i load my other hard drive with windows 7 on it, my computer can see the drive (as the bios did), but if i start the install through windows, the setup still cannot see the disk..

Xp pro will boot fine from these drives, but windows 7 setup does not see them at all. i have tried grabbing the motherboard's windows 7 drivers from msi's website for the motherboard (msi k9a2 platinum, ati sb600 chipset), but the windows 7 installer doesn't find any "valid signed drivers" and won't proceed.. I then tried using the alienware windows 7 disc again to reinstall windows 7, but the setup program still couldn't find a hard drive. i've also tried installing windows via a bootable usb drive, but had the same result. i can get into cmos setup just fine. i can make and save changes to it just fine..
